Tips to Caring For The Elderly Parent

Watch over and caring for the elderly parent is not easy. Especially, they have symptoms of senility. They have shortened memory, easy to forget, but have sensitive feeling. Sometimes, your filial piety gets negative attitude responds from your parent. You must be patient. It is not be easy assessing the ability of our parents to perform functions of their body. In fact, sometimes it becomes a very sensitive issue. I will give some tips to help you about this problem.

There are six lists suggested that your parent may need assistance. The six basic functions are; eating, moving, get up and go to sleep, entering a bathroom, bath and dress. There is a list of eight as medium or instrumental functions that should be monitored more strictly, that is using the telephone, preparing food, cleaning house, washing clothes, using their own car or ride, take medicine and arrange finance. You are advised to monitoring your parent’s behavior continuously.

One of the most important things are do not offering assistance that have no prior required or prohibit them to do something just because you are not sure whether they are able to do so. This is very offensive their ego. But you must take action if your parents are showing disavowal sign that no longer able to do their function properly. E.g., they fell in the bathroom or have forgotten to take medicine and they gave disclaimer statement. It can be dangerous to their health if not be treated immediately. You can use fall detection for this case.

If you can not caring for your parent continuously, it is good idea for you to looking for a nanny. You should know their background, experience for take cared elderly, personality, marital history, level of education and knowledge, motivation and their emotion. You can also use a medical alarm to make it easier to watch over your parents. Through medical alert you can continuously control your parent when they fell in the bathroom or need assistance immediately. In addition, you should be designing your home interior to be comfortable and safe for the elderly. You can just simplify the form of beds, chairs, doors, windows and so forth that often used. Try to give facilities that often made use of with more simple, powerful, and easy to use.
